Camarillo, California – Camarillo Area Transit fares are set to increase on July 1, 2021, in an effort to help offset the increase in cost to provide transit services.
This marks the first time that CAT fares have been increased since CAT services were first implemented over twenty years ago. The cost to operate CAT services has increased significantly over time and the fare adjustment is intended to help offset the increase in cost of providing the service for the community.
CAT offers two primary modes of transit service: Fixed Route bus services and Dial-A-Ride (DAR) paratransit services. There will be no change to fare prices for fixed route service; however, a fee for trolley service will be established that matches the existing Fixed Route fares, and fares for dial-a-ride service will be increased.
Fares for transit services are divided into two categories: General Purpose and Senior/ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Fares for transit service are offered by a single ride, a Monthly Pass, or a 10-Ride Ticket. The Monthly Pass is only valid during the calendar month for which it is purchased and can be used for an unlimited number of trips on both Fixed Route and local DAR services. The 10-Ride Ticket is offered at no discounted fare and is valid for ten individual trips for the specific mode, type, and category of service that it is purchased for, with no expiration date. All CAT bus passes are only valid for CAT services and are not valid for the regional transit services offered by Ventura County Transportation Commission or any other transit provider.
The changes included in the new fare structure for Dial-A-Ride are as follows:
- The qualifying senior age is increased to 65 years of age or older.
- The DAR, General Purpose Fare is increased to $3.00.
- The DAR, Senior /ADA fare is increased to $2.00.
- The Senior/ADA Monthly Pass price is increased to $80.
- The General Purpose Monthly Pass price is increased to $120.
- The 10-Ride Ticket pass price will increase to match the single ride fare.
