Camarillo Seeking Moratorium on Cultivation of Industrial Hemp (Post Date: 10/4/19)
Camarillo, California – The Camarillo City Council will consider an interim urgency ordinance for a temporary moratorium on the cultivation of industrial hemp within City limits at the Camarillo City Council meeting on October 9, 2019.
“The purpose of this moratorium is to temporarily prohibit such uses so the City may consider, study, and develop regulations applicable to industrial hemp,” Camarillo City Attorney Brian Pierik states in the agenda report for the October 9, 2019, meeting.
The Camarillo Municipal Code directly addresses cannabis facilities and activities, stating that neither are permitted within City limits. However, the Code does not specify land-use regulations that directly address industrial hemp-related activities.
Pierik explains in the agenda report that, if adopted, the interim urgency ordinance will be in effect immediately. The moratorium will be in place for 45 days, and the City Council will have the option to extend that moratorium for ten months.
The Camarillo City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Camarillo City Hall Council Chambers, at 601 Carmen Drive, Camarillo, 93010. This item will be heard by the City Council at or after 7:30 p.m. Public comment can be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org, or in person at the City Council meeting.
