Know Your Housing Rights (Post Date: 9/10/19)

Camarillo, California – The Housing Rights Center, in partnership with the City of Camarillo, will present a Housing Rights Workshop on Monday, September 16, 2019, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., at the Camarillo Public Library.

Topics of discussion at this free workshop will include fair housing laws, notices to vacate, repairs, evictions, and security deposits, among other topics.

The City of Camarillo funds the Housing Rights Center with $7,161 from the Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The Fiscal Year 2019/2020 CDBG amount awarded to the City is $311,056. Up to 20% of this total amount may be used on grant administration and fair housing.

The CDBG regulations require that all cities provide a fair housing program to ensure that those seeking housing services are not the subject of discrimination, nor the victim of fraudulent, or otherwise, misinformed landlord activity. Camarillo is part of the Ventura County Fair Housing Consortium and contracts with the Housing Rights Center to offer fair housing counseling and educational seminars to tenants and landlords within the City.
