The Power of Being Prepared (Post Date: 5/15/19)
Camarillo, California – A statewide education campaign The Power of Being Prepared was launched earlier this month to increase awareness of the importance of preparing for power outages during times of extreme weather and wildfire danger.
The campaign is a joint effort among the state’s investor-owned utilities, in coordination with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). It is a call to action for all Californians to take important steps to get ready before the 2019 wildfire season, such as creating a thorough emergency plan and updating your contact information with your energy company.
The campaign specifically references Public Safety Power Shutoffs, which is a program that calls for the proactive de-energizing of power lines in High Fire Risk Areas when certain conditions warrant. The decision and action to turn off power is made by each energy company and is based on a combination of factors, such as high winds, low humidity, dry vegetation, public safety risk and more.
